Refrigerator Water Shut Off Valve Leaking
Refrigerator Water Shut Off Valve Leaking. Can a refrigerator water line burst? If the water line has a leak or tear then it may be the cause of the dispenser dripping water.

Locate the cold water supply line and look for a small 1/4 copper line attached to it. You'll need a couple wrenches, one to hold the valve body itself and another to tighten the packing. If your whirlpool refrigerator is leaking from the water filter, then the water filter has to be replaced.
I Don't Think This Valve Has Been Used In A Very Long Time, It Has Probably Been Open For 10 To 20 Years.
The valve will be equipped with either a lever or a knob to shut it off. Whether you decide to replace the line yourself or not, you should shut the water running to your fridge off. Most water valves are easy to shut off.
You Should Have The Valve In The On When You Tighten The Packing Nut.
To fix a frozen or leaky water supply line, you will most likely need the assistance of a professional. Debris and food can clog the valve and lead to a drip. This is because the water filter’s seal may be torn or missing.
It Will Spray Aggressively All Over Your Kitchen.
First shut off the water to the leaking water valve. Reinstall the packing nut, tighten lightly with a wrench (don’t over tighten at this or any other point) and reattach the handle. If the valve uses a lever to turn it on or off the lever lines up in line with the waterline, it's in the open position.
If Your Whirlpool Refrigerator Is Leaking From The Water Filter, Then The Water Filter Has To Be Replaced.
Watch the old and replacement supply lines for any signs of leaking especially around the coupling connectors. If it's leaking where the stem of the handle meets the brass body(my crystal ball guess), you should be able to fix that leak by tightening the packing nut on the valve. Next, disconnect the water line before pressing the dispenser.
Insert A Cap Into The Water Line And Push It Deep Enough That It Fits Tightly.
If so, it should stop leaking once the valve is fully closed. If the water inlet valve does not shut off properly and the water pressure is good, replace the water inlet valve. Pull out the refrigerator and follow the water supply line from the fridge to the source.
